The refresher of a February convention is always nice, especially when it is East Bay Comic Con. Timing coming into play for EBCC has an advantage since it isn’t slotted between a hectic convention schedule. February is rather empty up in the bay area. I’ll take it. EBCC returns to the Crowne Plaza Inn in Concord, which is probably the best venue to hold this type of event. It’s also a short distance exiting the freeway, plus free parking at the hotel and surrounding lots.
The main entrance to the convention is the hotel’s lobby. Things can get clustered when entering, but space frees up when you reach the indoor atrium. This is the area for special guest tables (minimal vendors here). There are two vendor rooms, however, for attendees to shop around. Collectibles range from comics, movie/tv memorabilia, artwork, and toys. Celebrities headlining this year included John Wesley Shipp (The Flash), Jon Provost (Lassie), Fred Williamson (Black Caesar), and John Davey (Shazam!).
Plenty of cosplayers were in attendance, and Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse was in full effect. Marvel characters made up the majority of those in costume. There is a lot of hype riding on Marvel across movies and tv, so it’s perfect sense why so many people enjoy dressing up as their characters.
EBCC returns to the same venue in 2020 on February 9th. I’m looking forward to seeing guest announcements leading up the event. It’s always a variety of talent from different eras, which keeps things fresh year after year. :)
