This is one of those local conventions that I make every effort to cover. I've been going to East Bay Comic Con since 2014, which happened to be the first one. EBCC returned to the Crowne Plaza in Concord for a second year, and I really like the venue for what this event is. Two vendor rooms with a large atrium space for special guests and miscellaneous groups. The crowd is always great to see since the attendance looks to be increasing each year. A comic con in February wasn't common a few years ago, but this has been something to look forward for a while now. It's quite obvious many people share this same feeling here.
Panels this year included a spotlight on Marta Kristen (Lost in Space) and Creature Features. The panel programming wrapped with a costume contest for those that showed up in cosplay. Between the vendor rooms and panels, there was enough to do throughout the day. Hotel dining is a convenience since it's in the middle of everything, but across the street is an assortment of fast food spots and Starbucks. This is probably the most efficient, time-filled day I spend in Concord each year.
I can think of a handful of events that have "comic con" in their event title, but not really focus on comics. EBCC cares about comics, but also invites special guests of other mediums to complement it all. This year seemed to have more toy dealers compared to previous years, but that's just an overall trend at events anywhere you go. There hasn't been any update of an EBCC 2019 yet, but I'll be sure to share it once I get wind of a firm date.
The first vlog of 2018 is right here. B-roll was taken lightly this time around, so that explains why most of this video is of me speaking. That little downtime of no vlogs since October really took a toll on me creating stuff. It felt great hitting that record button and editing the video afterwards. Edit for this took maybe 2 hours.
