A new convention came to Sacramento this month called Fandemic Tour. This new event spawned from previous Wizard World CEO John Macaluso. Is this just a carbon copy of the Wizard World format? Many central valley fans might recall Wizard World occasionally setting up at Sacramento’s convention center a few times the past years, but this is an entirely different event with not connection whatsoever. In essence, it will feel like they are one in the same, just different special guests and different colored signs. I can see that being the case to the casual convention attendee.
Fandemic Tour put together a special guest list that consisted of Norman Reedus (The Walking Dead), Michael Rooker (Guardians of the Galaxy), Milo Ventimiglia (This Is Us), Chris Sullivan (This Is Us), and Jeffrey Dean Morgan (The Walking Dead) to name a few. In traditional convention fashion, each guest had their own table area for autographs and specific photo-op times in a separate area.
Movies promo stands for Teen Titans GO! to the Movies and The Meg had a prime location once people walked into the exhibit hall. People were able to take home promo items from those films to build anticipation for their future theatrical release. Vendors and artists were scattered around the hall to make for a fun weekend of shopping around. The Sacramento summer weather definitely made sure people stayed indoors, so it always felt like there was a constant flow of traffic at the event.
There are no plans for a future Fandemic Tour Sacramento in 2019, but it would be nice to see this event come back for another round. They certainly brought out a unique guest lineup mixed in with a few regulars that have been here for other conventions. I think it’s a good way to lure back fans and gain new ones that want another Fandemic Tour in the area. With the convention center going under renovation next year, conventions with this celebrity power might be hard to come by in the central valley.
